FAQs

1. What sort of a church are you?

Chelmsford Community Church was born out of the house-church movement, around 30 years ago. As time has gone by, there have been some changes.

Independent means that we are not governed by any other organisation, but we are affiliated to Ground Level. The leadership team have total responsibility for how the church operates. This does not mean we are on our own, though. We have excellent relationships with many of the other Pastors in Chelmsford.

Community Church means more than one thing. First, we are a community; secondly, we are in the community and actively seeking ways to serve the local residents.

2. What style of church are you?

We are a church that is passionate about Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We are always open to what God wants to do, and sometimes the services take on a life of their own, with different people contributing throughout. Other times, there are periods of quiet, or prophecy, long times of celebration or worship. The truth is, we serve a God who has His own ideas, and we always want to serve His will rather than our own.

3. Do you welcome children?

Yes, absolutely. We also provide facilities for all of the children (0-25!). We call it our Sunday Club and the young people really enjoy it.

If you are planning to come, you are of course free to keep your children with you for the entire service - it doesn't matter if they make a bit of noise, as long as they don't run completely riot!

4. We may be running late ... is that okay?

Of course it is. You can sneak in at the back at anytime. If you have children with you (and you want to), please drop them off at the various clubs! If it's your first time, ask one of the welcome team on the door where to go! We always enjoy coffee and cakes after the service, so you can easily get to know people then.

5. What sort of teaching do you provide?

On many Sundays, the teaching is Life Application based. This is solid teaching on how to live life in the real world, taken from scriptural principles. It is accessible to everyone (you don't need to be a theologian), but do bring a bible if you have one.

6. Will I be asked to do anything embarrassing?

No, we don't individually identify people who come visit us. If you'd like to just sit and quietly observe, that fine. Don't feel under any pressure to get involved in anything that is happening. We do ask that you'd fill out the first impressions cards we leave out for your comments.
