As the people of God we are commanded to ‘make disciples’.
This is done in different ways to meet the needs of the disciple.
The Sunday Service always contains teaching that is relevant to living in the 21st century. We believe that our faith, added to experience, will equip us, and enable us to make the right choices throughout each week. We want to know more about the character of Jesus so that we can become more like Him. The Sunday service and teaching contributes to this.
We also have Community Groups on different days and times. These are for teaching and growing together, for support and friendship.
Each year we run at least one ‘Freedom in Christ Discipleship Course’. This is a small group format and gives an excellent grounding in who we are in Christ.
For new believers or those who are young in the faith, we offer ‘Christianity Explored’. This twelve week course explores the book of Mark.
As folk mature we provided more in depth courses so that everyone can discover his or her ministry and life mission.
As a church we really want all to find fulfilment and to reach our potential. This is the sentiment of our vision statement – ‘Building a strong, healthy, vibrant church and reaching out to the community’.
What are they?
Community Groups are small groups of people of all ages that meet in someone’s home in various areas of Chelmsford. At present, there are groups that meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays on a regular basis (usually fortnightly).
Why do we have them?
It is not possible to get to know everyone well, so we meet with a smaller group of people in an informal, relaxed way. It gives us a chance to discuss our faith, to apply the Sunday sermons to our lives, to share our problems and to reach out to others.
What do they do?
Each group is different but there are some common activities such as:
Worship – open to all as the Spirit leads
Prayer – for each other, our friends, colleagues and neighbours
Watching DVDs – sermons, testimonies, short courses
Bible Study – applying the truth to our everyday lives
Social events – meals and other fun activities that we could invite our friends and neighbours to
Prayer
Prayer pays a very important part in the life of Chelmsford Community Church. We meet monthly and the time is spent praying for the community in which Chelmsford Community Church has based itself and also for the members of the Church itself. As i said at the beginning prayer pays a very important part in the life of the Church and many people in the Church can tell of how by prayer situations in their life's have changed for the better.
Freedom in Christ
Using the teaching materials from Freedom in Christ Ministries, Chelmsford Community Church offers this 13 week course that covers the teaching in “Victory Over Darkness” and “The Bondage Breaker” by Neil Anderson. This course will help Christians to take hold of the truth of who they are in Christ, resolve personal and spiritual conflicts and become a fruitful disciple.
The Sunday Club
The Sunday Club is our teaching ministry for young people and runs whilst the Sunday morning service is taking place.
Children learn about God and Jesus through games, craft, bible stories and prayer. Our aim is to give young people the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel and equip them to deal with the trials and temptations that young people face in today’s world.
